Development history

Rubeg Group started its development in 1994 as a trading company specializing in wholesale of foodstuff and frozen poultry in the Saint Petersburg market.

High attractiveness and favourable situation in the regional meat markets have become a good stimulus for dynamic development of the company in 1995. The geography of products sales have extended significantly. Rubeg Company has quickly gained its positions in the Russian regions laying the foundation of its leadership in the Russian market.

The real turning-point in the company development history was the year 1997. Having assessed the great potential of the Russian meat market, the management of the company has taken a decision to organize a special activity direction – importation of meat and meat products from abroad.

Rubeg Group signs a number of extremely important contracts with Western producers for beef, pork, and poultry supply. The new direction of the company’s activity has ensured that the increasing demands of millions of Russian consumers to quality meat products could be satisfied. At the time of great deficit of meat products in the Russian market, Rubeg Company has fulfilled a real breakthrough in the importation of meat products into Russia.

In the year 2001, as a result of extension of frozen meat products supply volume, the company’s first own low-temperature warehouse with the capacity of 9 000 tons was put into operation. This has allowed to significantly reduce the term of customers servicing and to increase the quality of customer service on the whole.

The company extended the sphere of its activity in 2002. A new promising business direction of meat-products production was created within the group. Aiming at the requirements of its main customers – meat-processing plants, Rubeg Group has realized the project on the production of MDM minced chicken in 2003.

2003 has become the most important stage in the development of Rubeg Group. The number of market players has significantly decreased in the connection with the implementation of the system of meat importation quotation by the Government of Russian Federation. Rubeg Group has managed not only to become one of the winners of the auction for the right to import meat products but also, a year later, to become a participant in the implementation of a governmental program to guarantee Russia’s meat products safety.

Following that line, Rubeg Group has conducted a complex of marketing research in 2004 and started the construction of a modern meat-processing plant (for the production of meat gastronomy) in Saint Petersburg.

In 2005 Rubeg Group has taken a fundamental decision to invest into agriculture in Russia. Poultry farming has become one of the promising business directions due to the constant increase in poultry consumption in Russia during the recent years. Thus, at the end of 2005 Rubeg Group acquired a poultry farming complex in Pskov Region. The complex comprises two poultry farms (battery farms) – “Pskovskaya” and “Pervomayskaya”. The plan for the reconstruction of battery farms will provide new workplaces, reestablishment of the necessary infrastructure, and equipment of the farm with modern facilities.

The development of new activity directions of Rubeg Group still continues. In the middle of 2006 the complex which is of great importance – a meat-processing plant for the production of premium quality meat gastronomy is planned to be put into operation. Rubeg Group specialists` great experience of business-planning and their systematic approach to the realization of the project allow to expect leadership of the company in this market sector as well.
