Ministry of Economic Development: Agricultural Product Manufacturing Continues Growth03.10.2008 meatinrussia In January - August 2008 agricultural product manufacturing continued growth in Russia. According to the monitoring of Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, its rate amounted to 105.6% against 104.6% for the period, to compare with the last year rate. For eight months of the current year, slaughter livestock and poultry production in farms of all grades totaled to 5,027 thousand tons, up 8.1%, to compare with the corresponding period of 2007. Slaughter livestock and poultry production increased by 13.4% to 3,078.2 thousand tons in agricultural organizations for this period. Slaughter pig and poultry production continues growth at a quick pace (113.6 and 119.7% respectively). Slaughter cattle production increased by 0.5%, as cattle stock declined by 3.6%. Milk production in farms of all grades in January - August 2008 amounted to 23,189.5 thousand tons or 101.3%, over 2007 rate. Milk production in agricultural organizations grew only by 0.5% and totaled to 10,100.7 thousand tons to compare with the level of the corresponding period of the last year. Production increase was achieved due to milk yield increase by 6.5% or 172 kilograms per cow, while cow stock declined by 2.5%. As of end of August 2008, cattle stock in farms of all agricultural producers totaled to 22.5 million heads, which is down 0.9% to compare with the corresponding date in the previous year. In particular, cow stock amounted to 9.4 million (down 0.9%); pig numbers was 17.6 million (down 0.1%), and sheep and goat herd totaled to 23.9 million heads (up 5%). |
